This course focuses on the practice and the teaching methodology of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as taught by Shri K Pattabhi Jois. The sequence includes over 70 yoga postures, linked sequentially by Vinyasa (breath-initatied movements between the asanas).
The course includes detailed instruction in the practice of these Primary Series and then continues with a morning Mysore style or Led Primary Series class for the remainder of the course. The course is geared towards the ability to give adjustments and to help students in deepening their postures and practice.
The students are familiarized with the Sanskrit names of the postures. They are taught about how to teach an Ashtanga Yoga Led class effectively in detail. The benefits of the specific sequencing, the movements between postures, the sound induced breath, Drishti(the gaze) and Bandhas(the three locks or seals) are included as essential elements of the Ashtanga Yoga practice. The importance of encouraging students to continue with a regular practice and preparing them for Mysore style is emphasized.
Basic yoga philosophy, including the translation and chanting of the Yoga Sutras as well as the Anatomy most relevant to yoga practice is introduced. The course includes an introduction to Ayurveda, and instruction in Meditation.
Maintaining a vegetarian diet and a lifestyle, which is conducive to yoga practice is encouraged throughout the course. Each participant has the opportunity to teach, assist and give adjustments. This teacher training explores the depth of the Ashtanga Yoga practice by revealing it's teaching techniques.
About the Teacher & Instructors:
Caroline Klebl is a dedicated Yoga instructor who teaches internationally recognized 200 and 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training courses all over the world. She also conducts retreats and workshops in the US. She is a proficient Ashtanga Yoga teacher having learned this directly from Sri K Pattabhi Jois over the course of nine years. With a wide background of learning in Tibetan Buddhism, Jungian Psychology, Iyengar and Viniyoga, she has absorbed teachings from various schools of thought . She has also studied traditional Ayurveda and Pancha Karma, Sanskrit and Yoga Philosophy in South India.
With her gentle approach, she introduces the postures and techniques of the practice to reveal the liberating quality of Ashtanga Yoga.
